Paolo Scaroni says Milan’s business plan ‘isn’t based on qualifying for the Champions League this season’ and ‘I don’t even have Antonio Conte’s number’.

In the third and final part of his interview with Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday, Scaroni focused on Elliott Management’s running of Milan, also discussing the Rossoneri’s upcoming FFP hearing and transfer policy.

“We must look to the East and America because for us to bring great champions here, everything goes through a global audience,” remarked the President.

“Milan could have an advantage: they’re the Italian club with the highest number of fans on the planet.

“We don’t want to stay being old gentlemen who remember old glories. We want to return to excellent economic and sporting levels.

“Juventus are the only club who have taken the path of English clubs. They’re the model to follow, of course.

“However, I’ll say this even if Agnelli doesn’t agree: winning seven League titles in a row is a beautiful record, but now national titles aren’t as valuable as European equivalents.

“In China and Brazil, they watch the cups more than the Leagues. Our business plan isn’t based on qualifying for the Champions League this season.

“However, it is next season. If we didn’t qualify for it then, we’d need a plan B. I’m going to Switzerland on Monday, the hearing will be Tuesday morning at 9:30.

“We’ll be sending over all the relevant paperwork and we hope that everything proceeds in the right direction.

“The judges will be magistrates from European courts, so they’re totally independent. In addition they don’t have a very difficult task: in the period between 2014 and 2017, the club violated the constraints of FFP and both sides agree.

“Therefore, a penalty proportionate to the offence must be established, as requested by the CAS in Lausanne.

“The analysis of our future budget is the next step and will happen in spring. Today it’s useless to even buy Messi because they can prohibit you from playing him.

“We need to focus on young players, raise them at minimal cost and sell them for €30-40m.

“it’s the best way to make profit and it allows you to make other signings, plus the fans would understand too.

“Maybe I haven’t been told about Conte, but I’ve never heard anyone mention him. I don’t even have his mobile number.”
