This was a negative start to the season, losing 2-0 with an Ibrahimovic brace, but at least an improvement on the 5-1 defeat they suffered here a few months ago.

“The game was fairly balanced. Perhaps we didn’t believe in ourselves enough, but the lads were in it to the end, we created two big scoring opportunities,” Mihajlovic told Sky Sport Italia.

“Milan have Ibrahimovic and we don’t. Everything Milan created came through Ibra, so he made the difference, but my team did what it had to do.

“We are Bologna, they are Milan, so inevitably there are periods in a game where we have to soak up pressure. They were in better shape, but then we pushed them hard in the final 15 minutes.”

When Bologna did get the chances, Gianluigi Donnarumma was ready with splendid saves.

“It’s my fault for giving him his debut, I’m fed up with him performing miracles every time he plays against me! We lost, but I am glad we played open football, created chances and never gave up.”

Bologna are currently in advanced negotiations for 20-year-old Dynamo Kiev talent Vladyslav Supryaga.

“We are not in a position to sign a player who can transform the team, so we decided to focus on young and promising players.

“Supryaga is one we are looking at, he must be given time to grow and we know there are going to inevitably be ups and downs, but great potential.”
