Mertens: No Napoli deal… yet

Dries Mertens has confirmed that a new Napoli contract is in the pipeline and joked he “will add a few zeros on after my last performance”.

Mertens has scored seven goals in his last two Serie A games, despite playing as a makeshift lone striker in Arkadiusz Milik’s absence, and the Belgian has now corroborated Monday’s reports that suggested he would sign a new deal with Napoli.

“It’s nice to be compared to Maradona, but I must only think about working harder and harder,” he told VTM Nieuws.

“It’s easy to forget what I’ve done well with a bad game. Now we’re thinking about Thursday’s challenge.

“My renewal? I haven’t signed it yet, it’s true, but it’s not the most important thing.

“Will I a few zeros onto my contract after my last performance? Why not!”
