“I speak often with lads who have left and they always say that they still miss it. Last week we played against Genoa and went out with Goran Pandev afterwards. He said ‘The times I had in Naples, I have nowhere else.’
“As for me, this summer there will be clarity: either I renew my contract or I leave. It depends on Napoli. We have to sit down and talk about a contract extension. I feel good here.”
Mertens is still under contract for another two years, but the Partenopei don’t want to risk losing him on the cheap.
The winger could be forgiven for wanting a transfer considering he rarely gets to start.
“If we finish second in Serie A, we play the Champions League. We’ll play a lot of important matches and I’ll get my chance.
“Even now, I do play one in every two games, more or less. With this Coach and the system that he plays, I think we are capable of great things.”
