Alexander Merkel has archived his Milan past after leaving the Diavolo in the summer. “I’m happy at Genoa.”
The German was signed by the Rossoneri as a youngster and inserted into their youth system at Milanello.
He then joined the Rossoblu last season on a co-ownership deal, before being recalled to Milan on loan in January.
At the end of the season, he returned to Marassi after the Grifone bought his contract outright from the San Siro giants.
“The transfer market is of no interest to myself,” stated the 20-year-old. “I’m happy at Genoa and Milan is a closed book for me now.”
Merkel was a protagonist for the port club this weekend when he scored in the 2-0 win over Cagliari.
“It went well,” the central midfielder added. “I was in the right place at the right time, but it is my teammates who deserve the plaudits.
“We wanted to win, we must remain humble and us youngsters need to follow the indications of our Coach.
“Gigi De Canio just asks me to do the simple things.”
