Mazzarri: ‘Inter missed the impossible’

Walter Mazzarri felt Inter “missed the seemingly impossible” in a 1-1 draw away to Bologna.

“We created even more chances than usual. It looked like the goal was cursed and in these situations you can even lose,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Walter Mazzarri felt Inter “missed the seemingly impossible” in a 1-1 draw away to Bologna.

“We created even more chances than usual. It looked like the goal was cursed and in these situations you can even lose,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had a series of naive errors on Bologna’s goal and it made the game an uphill struggle. We missed the seemingly impossible, but that is football and if you don’t take your chances then you don’t win.

“Jonathan is playing very well, we worked with him, gave him a sense of confidence and certainty within the organisation of the team.

“Yuto Nagatomo felt a tug in his calf, but tomorrow we’ll know more.”

Fredy Guarin is impressing in his new position as a support striker, but hit the crossbar at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“Sometimes he gets mixed up in Rodrigo Palacio’s space and doesn’t give his best there, but he played well tonight and he’d usually score at least one of his chances. He needs to start from a deeper position, which sometimes he does better than others.

“We have many creative players who can push forward and score a goal, as that’s the kind of football I like, one that doesn’t give opponents too many reference points.

“We work a great deal in training on movement and tactics, so I prefer not to vary positions too much this early into the process. It is a growth process and we have a young team, so we are still going to make mistakes that we must learn from.

“If we want to stay at the top level, then we can’t keep throwing points away like this.”
