Walter Mazzarri hailed Mauro Icardi and Mateo Kovacic, but insisted he wouldn’t like to be a national team Coach.
The Inter tactician spoke to Sportmediaset after the first few days of pre-season training in Pinzolo.
“It has been excellent, the fans exceptional and affectionate. They gave us more fire to train even harder,” said Mazzarri.
“The new arrivals are all at my disposal and want to improve themselves, as do the older names. I am satisfied with the squad.”
Asked whether striker Icardi could yet be considered a ‘top player,’ Mazzarri hedged his bets.
“He is on the path to becoming a top player, as he listens, wants to improve and has the characteristics to do very well. The same goes to Kovacic.”
Inter qualified for the Europa League last season and was asked whether a top five finish was again their target for 2014-15.
“My objective is to give our all, have even more of a soul to the team than last year and after that I am not someone who makes proclamations in the summer.”
Similarly, when asked about bids for Cardiff City defender Gary Medel and Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic, Mazzarri deflected the question with humour.
“Are they our players? Have we bought them? Then I don’t know them…”
Antonio Conte terminated his contract with Juventus by mutual consent this week and is widely expected to become the new Italy Coach.
“Anything can happen in football, we all make our choices and are all professionals. I am not interested in what happened at other clubs and don’t want to comment.
“Would I like to be a national team Coach? I don’t see myself in that role. I like to have the pressure and to train my players every day.”
