Inter boss Walter Mazzarri isn’t concerned by a lack of results by Italian clubs in pre-season so far. “We’re working towards Serie A.”
Mazzarri’s Inter were defeated 4-0 by Valencia in America, while Juventus lost 3-1 to LA Galaxy and Porto beat Napoli 3-1 over the weekend.
“The losses probably occurred because we Coaches from the Italian League know what kind of preparation it requires,” the former Napoli boss noted to Inter Channel.
“Our preparation is all based on work for the League and the work will pay off…
“In Italy we’re forced to work in this way,” he added. “You have to choose whether you want to come off looking good in these important friendlies or if you want to work very little.”
The Beneamata have struggled to get results so far this summer, but the ex-Sampdoria tactician is refusing to panic.
“Right now I favour hard work and I’m looking ahead,” he continued.
“A defeat against Valencia was something we knew was always a possibility, but perhaps we could have kept the score line down a bit since you never like losing by that many goals.
“There are probably moments when you have to play for pride.
“You could see Valencia were much fresher. And then you have to consider that they played their last match on 27 July, while ours was three days ago.”
Inter will now face Juventus in the Guinness International Champions Cup competition on August 6.
“We hope to do the best we can and use these defeats as a lesson. It’s something I’ve expected from my first day here, that Inter would become competitive again.
“We need to try and give everything, playing in a convincing way. In terms of doing things automatically we’re improving.
“It’s certainly not easy for a new Coach to start from scratch.”
