Mauri: ‘This is my best Lazio’

Stefano Mauri claims this is “the best Lazio team I’ve played in” as they target Champions League qualification.

The Biancocelesti are in joint third place with Napoli and only four points adrift of Roma in second thanks to a run of four consecutive victories.

“As I had said in pre-season training, this is the best Lazio team I’ve played in,” the 35-year-old declared on Lazio Style Radio.

“Now the squad is so united, there’s a mix of youth and experience that is proving to be very effective.

“However, playing football in Rome it’s better to keep your feet on the ground. Enthusiasm is welcome, but the match against Torino is fundamental and we must remain concentrated.”

Mauri is the Lazio captain, but handed the armband over to 20-year-old youth team midfielder Danilo Cataldi during the 4-0 victory over Fiorentina.

“It was a reward because Danilo is proving himself to be a very intelligent lad. The other more experienced players and I wanted to let him know with this gesture that he is important for Lazio.”
