From his hospital bed in Munich, Stefano Mauri has congratulated his Lazio teammates for topping the table.

After a 1-0 win in Week 11 over Parma, the Aquile share top spot in the table with Udinese, an achievement absent midfielder Mauri expressed his delight at.

“I suffer here in hospital in Munich, but to see Lazio at the top moves me emotionally and brings back my smile.

“Congratulations to all and a hug to Beppe Sculli who yesterday got it in the end.”

The midfielder is recovering after last week undergoing surgery on a problematic thigh strain injury.

Originally he was thought to have recovered from a second degree strain after a five-week lay-off, only for it to recur more severely just a few weeks into his return.

“Unfortunately I'm stuck here. It'll be 30 days in Munich in a specialised rehabilitation centre where they look after injuries of this type.

“When will I return? I can not say too much, but I hope to be back for selection by February.

“Standing is still hard, but the guys are giving me great joy….I look forward to playing my part.”
