Inter legend Lothar Matthäus thinks Simone Inzaghi is doing a good job at Inter, although Antonio Conte had ‘more experience and a different personality.’
The former Gemany international spent four seasons at Inter, scoring 53 goals in 153 appearances.
He won one Serie A title, one UEFA Cup and one Italian Super Cup during his time in Milan and is considered one of the most important players in the club’s history.
The 1990 World Cup winner spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about Inter’s campaign so far.
Matthäus was wearing the No.10 shirt at Inter, the same as Lautaro Martinez, who recently signed a contract extension with the Nerazzurri.
“The No.10 is on good shoulders,” said Matthäus.
“Lautaro can play for many years in Milan, always at a high level. He plays in a different position from mine, but the number is a sort of connection between us.
“He was an excellent player with Lukaku, but I see no issues also with a different striking partner.”
Nicolò Barella is also expected to commit his future to Inter, signing a new deal until 2026.
According to reports in Italy, Inter will announce his contract extension before the derby next week.
“I love Barella, he is the perfect box-to-box player,” the Inter legend said.
“His quality and his mentality have no equal in football, I am happy he is at Inter, but he could play in every top club in Europe.”
Inter sit third in the Serie A table, but their target is to retain the Serie A title they won last season under Antonio Conte.
“Conte was like Trappattoni, he created a special bond and wrote a great story.
“Inzaghi has done a good job so far, but Conte had more experience and a different personality.
“I put Inter among the favourites for the title and they can do well also in Europe.”
