Materazzi and Cannavaro reunite after World Cup draw

Italy legends Marco Materazzi and Fabio Cannavaro have reunited, posting a picture on Instagram: ‘Have you ever seen a wall on a plane?’

The former defenders led the Azzurri to win their fourth World Cup in 2006. Materazzi became a regular starter in Germany after an injury to Alessandro Nesta who was also among the best defenders of that generation.

Materazzi scored two goals in the competition: one against the Czech Republic in the last group stage game and one in the Final against France.

Cannavaro played a key role for the Azzurri and won the Ballon d’Or at the end of the year. Italy conceded only twice at the 2006 World Cup. An own goal (by Christian Zaccardo) in the second group stage game against the USA and Zinedine Zidane’s penalty kick in the Final.

Materazzi spent a few days in Doha last week and was among the guests of the World Cup draw. He posted a picture with his former defensive partner on a plane, writing: ‘Have you ever seen a wall on a plane?’
