Jackson Martinez has been linked with Napoli and his agent insists the Porto striker “can do better than Edinson Cavani.”
The 26-year-old Colombian was named as a target in the Corriere dello Sport this morning, as Cavani is on the verge of a €64m move to PSG.
“Jackson Martinez is the right player to replace Cavani,” assured his Italian agent Salvatore Fiore on Radio CRC.
“He has great physical strength and exceptional humility. He is proving himself in the Portuguese League, but also in European competition.”
Martinez scored an extraordinary 26 goals in 30 Primeira Liga games for Porto last season, while with all competition at club and international level he netted 33 times in 43 matches.
“Cavani has already proved what he can give, but Martinez can do even better. The atmosphere of Napoli could really fire up the lad. He had no problems settling in at Porto and I’m sure he’ll have none at Napoli.”
The agent denied there was a €40m buy-out clause in his contract, though did admit to some complications.
“It is difficult to deal with Porto, as they are a pricey boutique. Last year I offered Martinez to Roma, Milan and Fiorentina, but nothing ever came of it. Tonight I’ll know if Napoli have made concrete steps forward for him, as I’m meeting with another two of his representatives.”
