Juventus director Beppe Marotta confirmed Blaise Matuidi is “not on the market. We’re missing the cherry, but it’s still a nice cake.”
The Bianconeri had been expected to sign Matuidi this week, but Paris Saint-Germain suddenly announced he’d be extending his contract.
“Nothing in particular happened,” Marotta told Mediaset Premium. “We asked for Matuidi and PSG politely told us he was not on the market.

“These things happen. I think the issue is concluded, as they made a pretty explicit statement. For now it’s safe to say it’s over, but I have to underline how difficult it is to find players who suit our needs.
“I also wish to point out how Kwadwo Asamoah is a rediscovered player.”
Marotta was asked about other options such as Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic or Moussa Sissoko of Newcastle United.
“We are missing the cherry on the cake. If we find it, that’s fine, otherwise we’ll be happy with the nice cake. It is nonetheless a squad that corresponds with our objectives.
“If there is the opportunity to improve what we already have, then we will, otherwise there’s no point buying players just for the sake of it.”
