“Nobody can decide better than Conte, so if he decided this line-up, it’s because of his evaluations. We are playing every three days in the heat, so it’s absolutely normal to rotate the squad,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.
“The irritation is only down to conceding late goals, which naturally leaves regrets for everyone. We have to look at everything from the start of the season and we are seeing strong results. Conte’s aim was to make the most of the resources at his disposal and also to improve the team.
“We are achieving all those aims, so we can only be happy with the work of the coach and club. There is no perfection, we always have something to improve in life and work. Conte knows this and so do we.
“He has done an excellent job, but of course we still have areas where we can improve to get closer to the level of, for example, Juventus.”
Is Conte guaranteed to be on the Inter bench next season?
“I don’t see any changes. The club is very satisfied. He is an ambitious coach, he wants to win and is having a new experience, but we mustn’t forget this is his first season here, whereas clubs ahead of us in the table have been working with the same tactician for several years.
“Ambition is natural and so is irritation and recrimination when errors are made to lose points.”
Despite all the negativity, Inter could still go into second place this evening with a victory over Torino and are in the Europa League Round of 16.
“Inter have strong prestige for the history and trophy cabinet, so pressure is natural, but it comes from the outside and can damage the confidence of those inside. We must find even more strength and belief in ourselves to resist that pressure.
“Unfortunately, we’ve had a lot of injuries in the same area – the midfield – and it has forced squad rotation to be somewhat limited in those sectors. We want to fight it out to the end and it’s what we intend to do.”
Marcelo Brozovic is playing tonight, but has reportedly been fined €100,000 after he failed a breathalyser test when driving through a red light late at night.
“Let’s say it’s a disappointing situation to deal with. Aside from the fine, these lads must realise that their private life is also a matter of respect towards their teammates, the club and above all themselves.
“Having so many games close together, they should realise there are certain things they shouldn’t be doing, as rest is more important than ever.”
