The Italian international missed all of the 2010-11 campaign after clashing with Cagliari President Massimo Cellino.
The goalkeeper asked for a transfer on his return from the 2010 World Cup, but he was instead frozen out of the first team.
“I have to thank Lazio,” the custodian told La Repubblica. “They are the reason why my nightmare came to an end.”
Marchetti looked rusty at the start of the present campaign, but he’s grown in consistency having played in nine of the club’s 10 games so far.
“The role of the goalkeeper is a fascinating one,” said Marchetti, who some were tipping to net an international recall earlier this month.
“You’re the last man, you are on your own and you can’t make any mistakes.”
The Biancocelesti are currently joint top of the table with Udinese and travel to Napoli this weekend.
