Antonio Conte is determined to bring in a defender from Serie A, but saw huge money offers rejected for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, Torino’s Nikola Maksimovic and Stefan de Vrij of Lazio.
Alonso is under contract in Florence until June 2021 and has been in Italy since the summer of 2013.
He already has experience playing in England with Bolton and Sunderland.
