Napoli legend Diego Maradona has assured that he is ‘fine’ after suffering a health scare during Argentina’s 2-1 win against Nigeria.

Maradona was seen by a doctor midway through Tuesday’s match, while videos on social media showed him struggling to leave his seat after the final whistle.

However, he wrote in a Facebook post: “I want to tell everyone that I am fine, that I am not, neither was I interned.

“In the halftime of the game against Nigeria, my neck hurt a lot and I suffered a decompensation.

“I was checked by a doctor and he recommended me to go home before the second half, but I wanted to stay because we were risking it all.

“How could I leave? I send a kiss to everyone, thanks for the support!”

BBC Sport further played down fears that he collapsed, reporting the 57-year-old boarded a flight back to Moscow after the game.

The 57-year-old embarked on an emotional rollercoaster in St Petersburg, ranging from tears when the score was 1-1 to kissing a fellow fan after Marcos Rojo’s winner and waving one-figured salutes.

The Albiceleste ultimately progressed from their World Cup group but will face France over Denmark in the last 16 as a result of finishing behind Croatia.
