Roberto Mancini feels he can help Inter with what he learned at Manchester City and Galatasaray. “It’s different to a decade ago.”
The Coach had already worked at San Siro from 2004 to 2008, but returned after Walter Mazzarri was sacked.
“I don’t know if it’s the same as 10 years ago. Every moment is different,” said Mancio at his Press conference.
“I was really young back then, it was my first very important club. Now it’s different, so I probably don’t feel the same.”
There has been speculation over how long this move had been in the works, but Mancini assured it took less than 24 hours.
“I first received the phone call on Thursday night. I am very happy to be here. I need to start working and don’t know how many days that will take. There isn’t much time to deliver in football, so we must try to assimilate my ideas and discuss things with the players. We need to work fast and win fast, starting to work from today.”
Mancini won silverware at Manchester City and Galatasaray, so what has he learned that he can bring back to Italy?
“When someone works abroad, he has extraordinary experiences with totally different ways of living football. These years have been important for me, including in what for me is the best League in the world, the Premier League.
“Galatasaray have extraordinary fans, so I had two great experiences and those can only help a Coach. Now I return to Inter and think everything I’ve been through over these six years can be useful for me.”
Seeing as he has returned, Mancini was asked if he wanted to become the Sir Alex Ferguson of Inter.
“I don’t think we should look too far into the future, as we should remain focused on the present. Ferguson was at Manchester United for 27 years and I don’t think I can do that! It’s a different football, anyway.
“I am very happy to be back and feel I can give Inter a hand to win.”
Mancini’s first game in charge will be the Derby della Madonnina against Milan next Sunday evening.
“When I arrived at Galatasaray, our first game a few days later was Juventus in the Champions League! I didn’t look at the fixture list when I got the call on Thursday, but I was aware the derby was coming up fairly soon.”
Mancini was asked about the Calciopoli scandal, but urged Inter fans and media to set these old wounds aside.
“I have always been an honest person who said how things were. I think today we should just concentrate on what happens on the field.
“We need to improve that in Italy, as every game we live in the middle of controversy and arguments, so if we can push those aside for a while then our football can improve.
“The important thing is for the players to go out there and enjoy themselves, giving the fans pleasure. Having worked in England, I’ve realised the controversy is not that important.”
