Italy coach Roberto Mancini apologised if a joke he shared about COVID-19 offended anyone, but assured he ‘did not intend to disrespect the victims.’
The tactician caused controversy when posting a cartoon on his Instagram Stories showing a man in hospital revealing he got ill by ‘watching the news on TV.’
This was considered insulting and belittling to the pandemic, especially with a second wave hitting Italy right now.

The tactician caused controversy when posting a cartoon on his Instagram Stories showing a man in hospital revealing he got ill by ‘watching the news on TV.’
This was considered insulting and belittling to the pandemic, especially with a second wave hitting Italy right now.
“I simply shared a vignette that seemed to be taking the drama out of such a complicated moment,” wrote Mancini on social media this evening.
“That is all. There was no underlying message and no intention to show of a lack of respect towards those who are ill or the victims of COVID-19. If that is what came across, then I apologise.”
