Manchester United are ready to make an offer for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic if Frenkie de Jong continues to refuse an Old Trafford transfer, suggest reports in Italy.
The Premier League side had already been interested in Milinkovic-Savic several years ago, only to be rebuffed by the over €100m asking price.
That may well have dropped now, although the 27-year-old is still under contract until June 2024 and has made no suggestion he wishes to leave Lazio.
Manchester United have been frustrated in their pursuit of De Jong, as while Barcelona are open to a sale, the player seems to be very much against the idea of joining the club.
Among the reasons for his hesitation is their failure to qualify for the Champions League and that could also be an issue for Milinkovic-Savic.
According to LaLazioSiamoNoi.it, Manchester United see the Serbian as the next candidate if they fail to convince De Jong, although there may well be similar problems talking the player into accepting.
Meanwhile, Lazio fans went into something of a panic online after reports Milinkovic’s agent Mateja Kezman was spotted at the club headquarters.
