Man Utd could break records for Koulibaly

Manchester United have made Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly their number one target, but would have to break the transfer record for a defender.

According to the Daily Mirror, United will be looking to strengthen their back four for next season and have earmarked the Senegal international as a potential signing.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has previously said he turned down a €100m bid for the 27-year-old, which was also believed to be from Manchester United, so any offer from the English club would have to be higher than that.

Currently, the record fee for a defender is the €75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil Van Dijk in January 2018.

The Red Devils consider Koulibaly as one of the world’s best centre-backs and Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needs to rebuild his back line, as United conceded 54 times in the league this year.
