The Colombian has long been a transfer target for Spurs, as he is familiar with his old manager Andre Villas Boas from their Treble-winning campaign together at Porto in 2011.

Now Manchester United are stepping up their attempts to sign the 27-year-old attacking midfielder during the January transfer window.

According to Calcionews24, Inter directors Marco Branca, Piero Ausilio and Guarin’s agent Marcelo Ferreyra were in London today for a meeting with both Manchester United and Tottenham emissaries.

Guarin could be sacrificed to raise funds for the Nerazzurri’s January targets Radja Nainggolan of Cagliari, Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo and Paris Saint-German forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.

He is particularly prized by the Premier League duo because Guarin is available to play in Europe, as Inter did not take part in the Champions or Europa League this season.

Guarin joined Inter from Porto in May 2012 when his loan spell became permanent at a cost of £9m.

The Italian clubs is hoping for at least £15m to sell him on to an English side.
