British newspapers claim Manchester City are prepared to pay the €63m release clause in Edinson Cavani’s Napoli contract.
The striker is wanted by the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
According to today’s edition of the Sunday Mirror, City are stepping up their attempts to sign the Uruguayan.
They hope to demolish the competition by stumping up the €63m needed – £52m – to activate the release clause in his contract.
This would make Cavani the most expensive player in Premier League history, setting a new record.
Manchester City are also prepared to offer wages worth £250,000 per week.
Cavani has hinted he would prefer Real Madrid if he were to leave Napoli this summer.
