Genoa have dismissed speculation that Alberto Malesani will be sacked following the 2-0 loss at Cesena.

Whispers were getting louder that the 57-year-old could be axed after a roller coaster campaign that sees them currently sit in ninth.

“Malesani is part of this project here at Genoa,” club chief Enrico Preziosi told Sky Sport Italia. “He won’t be touched.”

The former Fiorentina and Parma tactician replaced Davide Ballardini on the Rossoblu bench during the summer.

However, in 11 League games so far, the Grifone have collected four wins, three draws and four losses under the boss who kept Bologna safe last term.

It was being suggested that former Lecce boss Gigi De Canio could replace Malesani at the Stadio Ferraris.

Ex-Cagliari and Italy boss Roberto Donadoni has also been paired with the port outfit.
