Lyon consider Gattuso as Blanc replacement – report

According to reports from France, Olympique Lyonnais are looking at former Italy international and ex-Milan and Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso in their search for a new head coach.

Though he has not officially left, current coach Laurent Blanc’s future hangs massively in the balance following the team’s 4-1 humbling by Paris Saint-Germain at home in their most recent Ligue 1 clash before the international break.

John Textor, who owns and chairs Eagle Football Holdings Ltd, majority owners of Lyon as well as Premier League side Crystal Palace, is said by French outlet Footmercato to have a close relationship with Gattuso’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

Footmercato goes on to detail that representatives from Lyon are due to hold talks with Gattuso’s entourage in the coming days.

Gattuso is, of course, not the only candidate up for the job, as Julen Lopetegui and Oliver Glasner are also thought to be enticing options.

There had been other names on the original shortlist, including Bologna’s Thiago Motta, but he, along with the likes of Graham Potter, Will Still and Marcello Gallardo have all passed up on the opportunity.
