Milan presented their new signing Luka Romero, who discussed his on-pitch inspirations, his goals with Stefano Pioli’s first team and where he’s most comfortable on the pitch.
The 18-year-old Argentinian forward left Lazio on a free transfer this month and joined up with the Rossoneri, where he penned a four-year contract.
Romero struggled for regular playing time under Maurizio Sarri last season but he’s keen to prove himself at Milan. His work in the pre-season training camp could help him stay with the first team for next season.
Speaking in a press conference, Romero first discussed his first week at Milanello.
“I’m very happy to be here. The first few days have been good, everyone is helping me a lot and I’m very happy.”
He was asked about his preferred role on the pitch.
“Wherever the coach puts me I play. I like it more behind the striker, where Brahim played last year….But I like all the attacking roles.”
The teenager touched on if he wanted to stay with Milan or leave on loan.
“I think I will stay here, I like the environment. I can learn a lot because of the high level there.”
He was asked about his footballing inspirations.
“Ronaldinho, Kaka, I saw Brahim a lot last year and I liked the way he played. With Sarri I learnt a lot on a tactical level. Serie A is very strong.”
Romero discussed why he decided to join Milan.
“During these years in the first team I learnt a lot. I was in the U20 to play the World Cup, the offer from Milan arrived and I immediately thought of coming here, to a club with so much history.”
He explained why he chose the number 18 shirt.
“It’s the day I was born, many family members were also born on the 18th and I’ve always liked it.”
The 18-year-old spoke about his first impressions of fellow new signing Christian Pulisic.
“He is a great player, he will do well here. I have a lot to learn from him.”
He was asked about how he handles the pressure of playing for a club like Milan.
“I’ve never had pressure, I’ve always done what I like, which is to play football. I have no fear or anxiety about being at Milan.
“I know I’m at a big club and that I have to prove myself, but I’m calm. When I have the opportunity to prove myself I will.”
He touched on which teammates he’d like to get to know.
“I want to get to know everyone. I’ve always liked Leao, he’s a great player and I want to talk to him. I’ve spoken a lot with Pioli, he always talks to me and I like him a lot.”
Finally, Romero was asked if he discussed Milan with former Lazio teammate Alessio Romagnoli.
“I spoke with him and Reina, they told me that this is a very big club and that I will be very happy here.”
