Alessandro Lucarelli has claimed that the Parma players were “confused” and said there’s a feeling that the situation in Serie A “is getting out of hand”.
Their 1-0 defeat against SPAL was delayed for 75 minutes and almost called off entirely, but in the end the match was carried out behind closed doors and the club manager Lucarelli said it’s difficult to talk about football in the current “atmosphere”.
He claimed the messages from Italian Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi and Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora made it impossible to “keep a coherent line”.
“Today it’s difficult to talk about football, we played a game in a surreal atmosphere,” he told DAZN. “For the umpteenth time, it has been shown that the situation is getting out of hand.
“It’s not possible to keep a coherent line based on the government’s decree, which regulated for professionals the possibility to train and play behind closed doors.
“Then this morning, there were positions taken, first by Tommasi and then by Minister Spadafora, who left everything up in the air. We remained here half an hour, slaves of the situation, without knowing what to do, waiting for directions.
“The players knew they were playing, there was a government decree that says you can play behind closed doors,” he added. “Confusion was made first by Tommasi and then by Spadafora, who denied what had been decided by the government.
“This created confusion. We were here with SPAL a minute before the start of the game. We were about to enter the pitch and they blocked us. This gives the idea of the confusion that there is at the moment.
“The sad thing is that there’s a feeling that the situation is getting out of hand and you surf on sight without following a common line, that perhaps would be the best thing.”
Andrea Petagna’s penalty decided the game for SPAL, who are now seven points behind Genoa at 17th.
