The first leg of the Champions League semi-final ended 5-2 at Anfield and the decider is at the Olimpico on Wednesday evening.

“I am still confident that we can score there,” centre-back Lovren told the Liverpool Echo.

“We had so many chances, they are really open, they are a team that likes to play and that is good for us.

“They now need to score. It will be a crazy atmosphere, but we played in one similar at Man City and we know what we need to do. If we score quite early, I think it will be a quite different.

“I am really quite confident we will have chances again. With our attack, how we did it, pfffff, I am not even worried.”

The tie had seemed under lock and key when 5-0 up, but Roma made a late comeback with potentially precious away goals from Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti.

“We just need to learn from our previous mistakes, the last 15 minutes we were tired. We have to be more controlling of the game. that is where we need to improve.

“There are many reasons behind it maybe fatigue, maybe different players, there are many reasons why but like I said I am pretty confident for the next leg.”

Roma need a 3-0 victory at home, an identical situation to the one they were in against Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

“We are not Barcelona. We play different football to Barca,” warned Lovren.

“We are a team who will not think about these five goals that we scored in the first leg. We will go there like a 0-0 game and we know we have these 90 minutes to make history again. We know what we need to do.

“We know we what need to do there and I am pretty confident that we can defend it even better than the first leg.

“They are a good team who likes to play which, like I say, is good for us. We had so much space it was incredible. I couldn’t believe they let us have so much space with these players – front three.”
