Lazio President Claudio Lotito says he wants his team to return to 'international peaks', and calls Miroslav Klose a 'reason of pride'.
The capitoline businessman, head of Lazio since 2004, was present at the team's Christmas dinner yesterday evening and spoke to Sky Sport and Lazio Style Radio about the future of the Biancocelesti.
“We have an objective, and it is bringing the club back to the international peaks,” said Lotito.
“We built a team that we consider to be competitive, we'll also throw into the mix the option of intervening into the transfer window should there be the need.
“We want Lazio to hold the role that it should do in football, and we'll get there by a process of re-structuring that is taking place both in the organisation of the business and in our targets.”
Lazio are currently sitting at fourth in the standings, but the Lazio President thought it was unhelpful to think of whether they can or can't defend that posit.
“We don't want to make programs based on a future logic, but to walk with our feet on the ground, thinking about one game at a time.
“Consider how some of the games that looked most approachable turned out to be the hardest, like in Empoli.
“The team must keep this level of attention, determination, sense of self-sacrifice and great humility to reach certain targets.”
Finally, Lotito spent a few words on German striker Miroslav Klose, who was often linked with a move away from Lazio but who recently declared that he wanted to stay.
“Miro came in spite of trouble with his leg. He is the top scorer in the history of the World Cup, this is a reason of pride for us.
“He will give an important contribution. In terms of contract he is bound to us for next year too, though of course the final decisions belong to the Coach.”
Lazio will attempt to defend their third place against Inter at San Siro next Sunday the 21st.
