The reports had already emerged on Wednesday that Liverpool were interested in bringing Super Mario back to the Premier League for €22m.
However, CEO Adriano Galliani’s denial of this story was also an open invitation for the Reds to step forward.
“At the moment there has been no offer from Liverpool from Balotelli, so there are no negotiations,” Galliani told news agency ANSA.
“But the transfer market finishes on September 1, so we’ll see.”
Thursday’s editions of The Times claims Liverpool are now lining up the formal proposal, which is to take Balotelli on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
However, Sky Sport Italia also insist tonight that Milan will not accept anything less than a permanent sale.
These same sources also believe agent Mino Raiola is flying to England for talks to see what the situation really is at Liverpool.
