Liga and Premier League block players, Serie A next?

After the Premier League, now LaLiga have stated they will support clubs who refuse to release players on international duty to South America, so Serie A sides will begin to consider the same.

The news was announced this evening by the Premier League clubs, as all 20 voted to deny their players for international duty in countries that are in the red zone for COVID-19.

That includes practically all of South America, along with Mexico, Egypt and other nations.

Premier League clubs won’t release players in COVID red zones

If they were released, the players would then have to quarantine for 10 days upon their return to the UK, forcing them to miss several games.

Now LaLiga have released a statement confirming they would support all the Spanish clubs who decided to refuse their players for international duty in CONMEBOL matches.

Inevitably, Serie A clubs will begin to wonder if they should also hold their players back from international duty with the South American sides for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
