According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are ready to meet Rafael Leao to finalise his contract extension as soon as he returns from Qatar.
Portugal face Switzerland in the World Cup round of 16 tonight and the Rossoneri directors will be watching the match closely.
Leao is not expected to start and as reported by Gazzetta, the Serie A champions are ready to meet their striker to continue negotiations and – hopefully – finalise a new deal with the 23-year-old.
According to the report, both parties are in a hurry to meet and put pen to paper on a new contract, even if an economic agreement is not in place yet.
If Portugal are eliminated tonight, Leao could join his teammates in Dubai by December 20. In any other case, the Rossoneri directors will be waiting for Leao in Milan with a written contract offer.
Leao’s current deal runs out in June 2024 and Milan are aware that failing to secure his signature by the end of the season would force them to sell their star in the summer.
Leao appeared to drop a hint on his future at Milan on Monday, writing on Twitter that more goals for the Rossoneri will come.
