Satirical TV show Le Iene has hit back at Lazio owner Claudio Lotito following his threat of legal action, asking ‘how did he get hold of our film?’

Lotito vowed to sue the Mediaset programme on the eve of it broadcasting an alleged expose into the patron’s business practices, on how he paid part of Mauro Zarate’s salary off the books.
It responded in a statement: “In a statement that the Lazio President Lotito released this afternoon to explain the reasons for his failure to respond to a programme by Filippo Roma (a programme that will be aired tomorrow at primetime on Italia 1, which recounts the alleged partial payments to Argentine ace Zarate off the books), we read that the President would have watched the programme with his lawyers, which ‘has already been maliciously spread on the internet’, and that he doesn’t intend to confer with our correspondent in the programme, so as not to give further resonance to our investigation through his participation.
“’Le Iene’ obviously regret it. It would’ve been a good opportunity for him to clarify all the issues raised, but we believe the term ‘maliciously spread’ should be clarified.
“Since we didn’t distribute anything, how did Lotito and his lawyers get hold of our fraudulently-distributed and maliciously-downloaded film, in defiance of and to the detriment of our rights?”
