Lazio offer Anelka lifeline?

Italian media suggest Lazio have offered under-fire West Bromwich Albion man Nicolas Anelka a contract.

The striker is on the market after sponsors threatened to stop funding the club unless he was dropped after making a controversial ‘quenelle’ gesture, which could be interpreted as anti-Semitic.

According to Sky Sport Italia this evening, Anelka has been offered a lifeline at Lazio on a six-month deal.

It would be a return to Serie A for 34-year-old Anelka, who had a dismal spell at Juventus last year, making just three substitute appearances for a total 58 minutes of football.

It’s reported Anelka would only accept a move if his contract with Lazio included next season as well.

The Biancocelesti’s first choice is Fabio Quagliarella, but they are struggling to prise him away from Juventus.
