Lazio fans raged against captain Ciro Immobile after his shocking miss in the Champions League trip to Bayern Munich, urging him to ‘just retire’ or ‘go to Saudi Arabia.’

There has long been a tense rapport between certain sections of the fanbase and the veteran centre-forward, who admits he was tempted to accept a lucrative transfer to the Saudi Pro League last summer after he was bitterly criticised by supporters.

He converted the winning penalty in the first leg of this Champions League Round of 16 tie, but missed a free diving header at the Allianz Arena this evening.

Moments later, Bayern Munich took the lead and went into the break 2-0 up.

Fans did not forgive Immobile and rushed to social media to rage against the striker when replying to the official Lazio account.

“Missed goal, yet again by the pensioner Immobile, and we concede. Those are the rules…”

Bayern went into the break leading 2-1 on aggregate.

“Goodbye Champions League! It was fun while it lasted. Immobile is cooked.”

Others urged Immobile to “just retire” or “go to Saudi Arabia” and they very well may get their wish at the end of the season.
