Lazio eye Bologna’s Ferguson as potential replacement for Milinkovic-Savic – report

Lazio are reported to be keen on Bologna midfielder and Scotland international Lewis Ferguson and could be tempted into making a move for the 23-year-old if Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is to leave the Stadio Olimpico this summer, as per Calciomercato.

There has been much speculation over Milinkovic-Savic’s long-term future in Rome over the course of this season, with several outlets having reported that this could finally be the year that the Serbian international calls it a day on his eight-year spell with the Biancocelesti.

Lazio are thought to be keen on avoiding losing their star midfielder on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract next year and, according to Calciomercato, the club are already beginning to prepare a list of potential replacements.

Near the top of the list of names is Ferguson, who has enjoyed a fruitful season from the middle of the park under Thiago Motta this campaign. With seven league goals from midfield, the Scotsman ended the year just two strikes shy of Milinkovic-Savic’s eventual tally of nine.

Ferguson, who was brought in by the Rossoblu for a fee of around €3.5m last summer, is fondly admired by those at Lazio, but there are also other interested parties, particularly from abroad according to Thursday’s reports.
