Lazio could challenge Inter for the signing of on-loan Sao Paulo striker Jonathan Calleri, according to reports.
The Argentinian striker came close to joining the Nerazzurri from Boca Juniors in January, but the deal collapsed amid confusion over his ownership.
He was sold to Uruguayan’s Deportivo Maldonado and then loaned to Sao Paulo, whose sporting director yesterday told reporters that a move is ‘down to his agents’.
Corriere dello Sport has reported today that Lazio could now enter the race for the 22-year-old, as they are in the market for a new striker this summer.
The newspaper writes that the Aquile are monitoring Calleri as Miroslav Klose and Alessandro Matri are both set to leave at the end of the season.
Calleri has been in fine form for Sao Paulo recently, scoring eight goals in seven Copa Libertadores matches.
