Lazio close on Fares

Lazio are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal for SPAL wing-back Mohamed Fares, despite competition from Cagliari.

The 24-year-old Algeria international was requested specifically by coach Simone Inzaghi, according to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, who sees him as ideal for the 3-5-2 system.

Fares is ready to follow in the footsteps of Manuel Lazzari, who moved from SPAL to Lazio last summer, as they worked brilliantly on either side of a five-man midfield.

Cagliari have also shown interest in Fares for new coach Eusebio Di Francesco, but he seems to have his heart set on Lazio.

There are still more negotiations to whittle down the price difference, as SPAL want €10m and so far the Biancocelesti offer is believed to be €7m plus bonuses.

Fares only made eight appearances in Serie A this season, as he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee last August.
