Lautaro Martinez has withdrawn from the Argentina national team after testing positive for COVID.
The 24-year-old Argentinian forward will be forced to watch the Albiceleste’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Ecuador from his home where he is self-isolating. The matches are not too important as Argentina have already qualified for the tournament in Qatar.
As announced by both Argentina’s FA and Inter, Lautaro tested positive for COVID after a test carried out on Sunday, before his departure for the Argentina training camp. He is now following the procedures laid out by the health protocol and is isolating at his home.
Inter hope that the 24-year-old forward will be available in time for Serie A’s return; the Nerazzurri are due to play rivals Juventus in a key Derby d’Italia clash on April 3.
Lautaro played 74 minutes of Inter’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina on Saturday, meaning that some other players from that match now risk testing positive as well.
