Lautaro: ‘It’s up to Icardi’

Lautaro Martinez said Inter players “can’t do anything, it’s up to Mauro Icardi to resolve his problems” after a 2-1 defeat to Cagliari.

The Argentine scored a temporary equaliser with his glancing header, but the Leonardo Pavoletti volley just before half-time proved decisive.

“We didn’t win today, but I think we played very well in the second half. We created plenty of chances and Alessio Cragno was excellent in goal for Cagliari,” Lautaro told Sky Sport Italia.

“We dropped points again and have to do more, make fewer mistakes and keep taking it one game at a time. The Europa League is a big objective for us, so we need to focus on Eintracht Frankfurt to put in a strong performance, only then can we think about SPAL.”

This was the fifth game without Icardi and Martinez was asked if it was important to get the striker back.

“Mauro is very important for us, but we can’t do anything about it, so it’s up to him to resolve his problems. All we can do is wait and try to win.”

While Icardi is officially out with a knee injury, Lautaro’s comments seemed to imply it was the row with the club that saw him stripped of his captaincy that caused his absence.
