Kvaratskhelia and Meret talk Napoli Scudetto dream

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Alex Meret comment on Napoli Scudetto ambitions after their massive 2-0 victory away to Milan. ‘We can do it one more time.’

The result was sealed in the first half at San Siro, as Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia cut inside from the left to bend a right-foot finish into the far bottom corner.

This was Kvaratskhelia’s first goal at San Siro and the first he managed to score against Milan.

“I was working for this, but the team showed a strong mentality and I think we deserved to win. We are all happy,” Kvaratskhelia told DAZN.

Considering they won the Serie A title the last time Napoli beat Milan at San Siro in 2022, does the Georgia international feel they can do it again?

“Of course, we have a team that believes we are going very well, we have to keep that going and know we can do it one more time.”

This is the third season in Naples for Kvaratskhelia, so what did he tell Lukaku when the former Inter and Roma striker arrived?

“I told him Napoli have great fans, but he already knew Napoli is a football city and he’s enjoying it. He is a kind person, very humble, we know he is one of the leaders of this team. He’s a good guy, a great player and everybody knows it.”

Kvaratskhelia and Meret hail Napoli run

The Partenopei have now won nine of their last 10 competitive matches, scoring 23 goals and conceding only two between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, drawing 0-0 away to Juventus.

It is a particularly remarkable run considering their campaign started with a 3-0 defeat to Verona, but they haven’t looked back since.

“I feel the team is working very well defensively, there is great focus and sacrifice from everyone,” Meret told DAZN.

“It was a difficult match tonight, but we did well to close all the spaces and allow Milan very few opportunities, taking home three important points.”

There were still quite a few chances for the hosts, so which was the toughest save for the goalkeeper?

“Perhaps my best save was on Leao when he cut inside and hit it very hard. These were three big points for us.”

Kvaratskhelia believes in the Serie A title for Napoli, so can Meret say the same?

“We certainly know that we are doing well, but it’s just the start, so it’s early to talk about the Scudetto. We just have to keep taking it one game at a time.”
