Koulibaly backs plan for World Cup every two years

Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly believes a World Cup could every two years be ‘good for African teams.’

There are rumours that FIFA wants to double the frequency of the World Cup as part of a complete revamp of the international calendar.

That could see more African teams involved in the competition and Koulibaly backs the plan that could benefit all footballers.

“We were already playing too much and, with this new idea, there may be fewer commitments for us players,” Koulibaly said after Senegal’s 4-1 win over Namibia, as quoted by Ansa.

“It’s a positive thing for the number of African teams, we deserve to have more teams in the World Cup.”

However, Senegal’s coach Aliou Cissé said he is against a World Cup held every two years.

Senegal travel to Namibia tomorrow for the second leg and Napoli host Torino on Sunday after the international break.
