The Monaco midfielder had seemed to be on the verge of a move to Milan, but instead secured a transfer to their arch rivals for a reported €35m plus performance-related bonuses.
“Geoffrey is a player of international level and Champions League clubs were after him,” Italian-based representative Paolo Schiavone told fcinter1908.it.
“He received offers from England, Spain and Italy, as Milan and Inter weren’t the only clubs interested in Serie A.
“However, the lad is fascinated by the project that Roberto Mancini proposed to him. It’s false to say he just went for the money, as Kondogbia wanted Inter and would’ve accepted even lower wages. After all, he would’ve earned more under the Milan contract.
“It was never an issue of money. Geoffrey wanted a project to wed himself to and he found that in the Nerazzurri.”
There had been reports that a phone call from Coach Mancini was decisive in changing the 22-year-old’s mind.
“Mancini is a great Coach and Kondogbia is convinced that under his tutelage he can become an even better player.
“It’s not true to say he was down to details with Milan. He never had any sort of agreement with other clubs. He wanted Inter and he got Inter.
“He is very happy and I thank all the fans for the warm welcome. He can’t wait to wear his new Number 7 jersey.”
