Knee surgery for Genoa’s Rossi

Genoa captain Marco Rossi will be out for up to five weeks after undergoing surgery on his knee.

The 34 year-old has not featured since appearing as a second-half substitute in the Rossoblu’s opening fixture this season against Cagliari, and the club's official website have now revealed that the player will go under the knife today.

Rossi has torn the meniscus in his left knee, and will be out for between 30-35 days.

Coach Luigi De Canio has cover in his position, deploying four different combinations in midfield in the first four Serie A games, but the veteran midfielder will be missed for his energy and motivational qualities.

Rossi has played 273 times for Il Grifone in his eight years at the club, including 30 appearances last season in Serie A.
