Justin Kluivert has chosen to wear the No 34 shirt for Roma out of respect for ex-Ajax teammate Abdelhak Nouri, who suffered brain damage.
Nouri was forced to quit football at just 20 years of age after he collapsed during a preseason friendly last July.
It then emerged that the midfielder – who wore No 34 for Ajax – suffered severe and permanent brain damage.
“Why 34? [It was] Appie’s number," Kluivert wrote on Instagram.
“My prayers and shirt number for you, my friend-brother who taught me so much.”
