Lazio’ Miroslav Klose has stated his ambition to overtake Ronaldo and become the World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer.
In what is almost certain to be his final tournament, the 35-year-old has scored 14 goals for Germany so far at world football’s showpiece event.
He is one behind the Brazilian legend who has 15, but he will have at least three group matches, plus the knockout stages should his team get that far, to score the two goals needed to become the outright record holder.
“Anyone who knows me knows that I will be fighting to reach that objective,” Klose said at a German team Press conference today.
“With one goal I will catch Ronaldo, but I need two goals to be top myself. I am in a good run of form and I am hoping to get to the World Cup at 100 per cent.
“I am giving everything in training and I will be ready.”
