The German international has been an instant success in Rome, scoring nine goals in 18 League games so far.

“This is a beautiful city,” the veteran hitman noted. “I’ve been welcomed here in a splendid manner by everyone.

“I’m playing for a great team and I’m happy with the decision I made in coming here.”

One of the highlights for the former Werder Bremen ace so far was scoring in the 2-1 win over city rivals Roma.

“The derby is a beautiful and important game,” he added. “I understood that when I arrived here in Rome.

“We prepared for that game really well and we were able to win it. My goal was important for everyone and not just myself.”

Lazio won that tie in October thanks to an injury-time strike from the World Cup hero.
