Kjaer: ‘Champions League was always the target’

Milan defender Simon Kjaer said the target was ‘always to qualify for the Champions League’ ahead of the big game against Juventus in Serie A.

The Rossoneri and the Bianconeri face each other on Sunday night, in a game that could be decisive in the battle for top four in the Italian League this term.

Milan finished 2020 as winter champions but struggled to keep up with local rivals Inter in 2021, but Kjaer stressed the target was always the European Cup.

“We go forward with desire to win this match and reach our target,” Kjaer told Milan TV. “Which has always been qualification to the Champions League.

“I have positive feelings, I feel the hunger and desire to attack the game and win to reach our goal.

“But, I’m aware that it will not be easy.”

Juventus, Milan and Atalanta are tied on 69 points with four games remaining, whilst Napoli sit two points behind in fifth.

Lazio then follow on 64 points but have one game in hand on their rivals too.
