Khedira: ‘No Juve-Bayern favourites’

Sami Khedira insists “there are no favourites” when Juventus take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The first leg in the Round of 16 kicks off on Tuesday evening in Turin.

“Bayern Munich are one of the best sides in the world and have many very strong players,” German international Khedira told Bild newspaper.

“Some might say that they are the favourites in this match, but Juventus are always ready to have their say in this type of game. There are no favourites.

“Some might say that they are the favourites in this match, but Juventus are always ready to have their say in this type of game. There are no favourites.

“I am here to bring stability to the Bianconeri midfield and I’m happy that the fans in Turin have recognised that is my role.”

Both sides have injury concerns in defence, above all Giorgio Chiellini and Jerome Boateng.

“Boateng’s absence will really hurt Bayern, because in my view he is one of the best defenders in the world over the last two years.”

It’ll be the last season for Pep Guardiola before he goes to Manchester City, as Bayern Munich already announced his replacement will be Carlo Ancelotti.

“I think Ancelotti’s arrival is a victory for German football,” added Khedira, who worked with him at Real Madrid.

“He is a Coach who is always ready to listen to you and clear things up face to face. His approach with the players is very open and transparent, based on the human rapport.

“Ancelotti is a great Coach, but also a man of real class.”
